Dancers from colleges across the district came together for a cause on Saturday to put up performances for five hours at the ‘Dance Marathon’ organised by the Meenakshi Mission Hospital and Research Centre (MMHRC) at Lakshmi Sundaram Hall here. The programme was organised to support the Camila Children’s Cancer Fund.

“We decided to use the medium of dance to create awareness and spread the message about paediatric cancer. There is a need to create awareness among students as they will effectively take the message forward,” said P. Sundarraj, Senior Manager, Department of Resources and Development of the Meenakshi Mission Hospital.

S. Jayabose, Director of the Division of Paediatric Haematology and Oncology, MMHRC, said that it was generally rare and 80 per cent of all children affected by cancer could be cured.

“The Camila Children’s Cancer Fund was created in 2007 with the aim to be able to immediately offer help for young cancer patients in times of need”, he explained.
