Students from Corporation schools in the city fared well this year and 15 schools recorded an overall pass percentage of 93.61 per cent. This is a slight increase when compared to the results in 2013 where the schools had a 93.14 per cent pass percentage.
Students from humble backgrounds hogged the limelight and emerged as toppers in their schools. M. Sangeetha, a student of the Kasthuribai Gandhi Girls Higher Secondary School secured the top marks among corporation school students with 1,162 marks and scored a centum in Physics. E. Manimaran from the Bharathidasan Corporation Higher Secondary School stood second with 1,129 marks and at third place, R. Murugeswari scored 1,119 marks.
Out of the 2,487 students who wrote the Plus Two exams from corporation schools in the city, 2,238 cleared them. Chief Educational Officer of the Madurai Corporation S. Mary said that the Madurai corporation schools had secured higher pass percentage when compared to Chennai and Coimbatore.

Three corporation schools, namely the Masathiyar Girls Higher Secondary School, Kambar Girls Higher Secondary School and Pandiyan Nedunchezhiyan Girls Higher Secondary School secured a 100 per cent pass percentage.
Students and teachers of the Pandiyan Nedunchezhiyan School were elated with the results given that the very first batch of 21 students writing their plus two exams from the school had emerged victorious.
R. Murugeswari, Headmistress of the school, said that consistent coaching before and after school hours worked in favour of the students. “We also identified students who were struggling and gave them special attention,” she said.

Corporation Commissioner C. Kathiravan said that more students in corporation schools should be given confidence and encouraged to score well. “Many students lose confidence thinking that private schools are better. With adequate focus and coaching, good results can be produced from any school,” he said.
“We are looking at conducting motivation classes for the students across Madurai Corporation schools as well as have coaching classes for students who are struggling to cope up. Career guidance will also be imparted,” Mr. Kathiravan added.
