Four teams formed to inspect each school

In the aftermath of the recent midday meal tragedy in a school in Bihar, the Madurai Corporation is prioritising safety in corporation schools.

Four inspections teams have been formed to inspect each school and prepare a report on the quality of food, hygiene in kitchens, sanitation and stability of school buildings.

R. Nanthagopal, Corporation Commissioner, said on Monday that noon meal centres would be closely scrutinised.

"The Corporation Education Officer was asked to cover all the four zones. Quality of food, storage facility, the structural strength of school buildings and sanitation will be looked into during the inspection," he said.

Mr.Nanthagopal was speaking to reporters at the grievance meeting organised for the people of Wards 24 to 49 in Zone 2 at the Corporation park near K.Pudhur.

According to Mr.Nanthagopal, the public grievance meetings being conducted in the name of ‘Makkalai Thedi Maanagaratchi’ have evoked a good response.

Birth and death certificates, property tax assessment, patta transfer and other issues are addressed at the special grievance meetings, he said.

The Corporation plans to step up the removal of encroachments across the city with the help of the police, the Commissioner said.

Mayor V.V.Rajan Chellappa presided over the Zone-2 grievance meeting.

Deputy Mayor R.Gopalakrishnan, Chief Town Planning Officer M.Rakkappan and City Health Officer V.Yasodha Mani attended the meeting.
