Conditional bail for U.S. ship crew cancelled

A court here on Tuesday allowed the criminal revision petition of the ‘Q’ Branch police against the grant of conditional bail to 35 men, including the crew of U.S. ship Seaman Guard Ohio , which the Coast Guard apprehended on October 12 last for allegedly carrying illegal weapons and trespassing into Indian waters.

Principal District and Sessions Judge J. Krishnamoorthy cancelled the bail. They were arrested on October 18.

On January 6, Public Prosecutor S. Chandrasekar argued that a charge sheet could be filed within 90 days in any case of offence that attracted rigorous imprisonment up to 10 years.

Inspector of Police R.D. Baskaran filed a 2,158-page charge sheet against 45 accused, including guards, crew and diesel suppliers, before the Judicial Magistrate here on December 30.
