Concern over delay in issuing G.O. for VC search panel

The Save MKU Coalition has questioned the delay in issuing the government order (G.O.) for constitution of Madurai Kamaraj University’s (MKU) Vice-Chancellor search panel and calling for applications from aspirants.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Coalition said that it was not clear why the G.O. was not issued or made public when the three-member panel seemed to have already had its first meeting nearly two weeks back.

Nageshwar Rao, VC of Indira Gandhi National Open University, has been chosen as the Governor-Chancellor’s nominee for the search panel while C. Thangamuthu, former VC of Bharathidasan University and M. Anandakrishnan, former VC of Anna University, have been chosen as the Syndicate and Senate’s nominees respectively.

Alleging that the continued stay of P.P. Chellathurai, whose appointment as MKU’s Vice-Chancellor was set aside by Madras High Court, at the university’s bungalow exerted an unnecessary influence on the administration, the Coalition said that the release of G.O. would send a clear message that the government was going ahead with the selection process.

The Coalition also took exception to the presence of Mr. Chellathurai’s name as MKU’s VC in some places in the university’s website instead of the Convenor’s Committee that is looking after the administration of the university now.
