Police Commissioner Sanjay Mathur and his team had an interaction with the representatives from professional, arts and science colleges in the city on Thursday.

Presenting a power point programme about the need to prevent ragging and the legal consequences, the police assured the college authorities of all support to prevent the crime.

Ragging in any manner, when brought to the notice, would be sternly dealt with, he said.

About 15 representatives including those from the Madurai Medical College among other institutions participated in the meeting, a police officer said.

A majority of the staff, exclusively designated to check the ragging menace in their institutions, informed that they have an anti-ragging committee in their college campus.

Under no circumstances, the senior students – both in the classrooms and in hostels – would have access to mingle with the fresh students, the participants said.

For effective surveillance, CCTVs are also functioning in the educational institutions, the staff members added.

Eliminate

The police said that the proactive steps would not only prevent such crimes, but also help in eliminating the menace in educational campuses.
