Combined court complexes planned in Bodi, Andipatti

Foundation laid for new court buildings in Periyakulam

Steps are being taken to construct combined court complexes to accommodate two courts and judges’ quarters each in Bodi and Andipatti, according to Finance Minister O. Panneerselvam.

Presiding over a function held for laying the foundation stone for the combined court building and judge’s quarters at Periyakulam near here on Saturday, he said the new court complex would be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs.4.89 crore in Andipatti and at Rs.6.01 crore in Bodi. Proposals for the projects had been sent to the government for sanction, he added.

Keen on providing more facilities and improving infrastructure for judiciary, the State government had sanctioned funds for establishing 22 Mahila Courts across the State, which were being opened in phases. A sum of Rs.5 crore had been allotted to impart training to judicial staff, and computer facility had been provided to courts. Equal importance was being given to education and social security schemes. The work on the buildings for the Government Engineering College in Bodi was at the finishing stage, Mr.Panneerselvam noted.

Madras High Court Judge C.T. Selvam said courts were like lamps and lawyers should be their flames emitting light of justice to society.

Collector K.S. Palanisamy said all assistance would be extended for constructing new court buildings.
