Says 648 green houses will be constructed

Collector K. Veera Raghava Rao inspecting saplings planted at Sakkimangalam near Madurai on Tuesday.

Several ongoing projects, some of which are nearing completion, were inspeced by Collector K. Veera Raghava Rao at Sakkimangalam near here on Tuesday.

He went around a nursery, which has been raised on poromboke land, at Kalmedu. A total of 2,200 saplings, including teak, vagai , marudam , cotton, pungai and neem have been planted over an area of 5.15 acres at the nursery. “The saplings will be shifted to other parts of the district after they are grown,” he told media persons.

The Collector visited a vermi-compost yard where the public can buy the organic farm input at ₹20 per bag. He planted a sapling at the yard and interacted with farm workers on effective irrigation techniques. He also inspected the ‘Amma Park’ and ‘Amma Gym.’

A total of 648 solar houses would be constructed in the district under the Chief Minister's Solar-Powered Green House Scheme at an estimated cost of ₹13. 60 crore, the Collector said.

Three hundred and twenty six would also be built under the Prime Minister Awas Yojana. Individual household toilets had been constructed in most houses at Sakkimangalam.
