An awareness vehicle of Childline was flagged off by Collector L. Subramanian here on Monday as part of the ‘Friends of Childline Week’ being observed from November 14 to 20.

The Childline, an initiative by the Ministry of Women and Child Development under the Integrated Child Protection Scheme, is handled in Madurai in collaboration with Sakthi-Vidiyal, a non-governmental organisation. Toll-free number ‘1098’ can be used to report issues such as physical, sexual and mental abuse of children in distress.

The vehicle will visit all the 100 wards of the Madurai Corporation to create awareness of Childline among the public. “Till 8 p.m., the vehicle visited various areas and organised awareness meetings and street plays,” said Jim Jesudoss, Director of Childline.
