The Deputy Director (Health) was instructed to gather weekly reports about the functioning of the PHCs and submit to the Collector for review

“Check the age of women getting admitted for delivery,” said Collector Anshul Mishra.

During a visit to Karungalakudi on the Tiruchi highway on Tuesday, the Collector stepped into the primary health centre and checked registers maintained on in-patient admission for delivery.

In the backdrop of attempts to get children married off and reports of such marriages being prevented at the last minute, he advised the para-medical staff and doctors to be vigilant while admitting cases for child delivery. He inquired with the staff about number of successful deliveries and spoke with some of the out-patients.

He checked the medicine and other drugs available at the hospital. The Deputy Director (Health) was instructed to gather weekly reports about the functioning of the PHCs and submit to the Collector for review, an official press release said.

Earlier, at the Ayyapatti panchayat union, Mr. Mishra appealed to the villagers and the president not to be party to child marriages and explained to them the legal consequences.

The officials were in the process of taking stock of marriage halls and temples in each block in the district. The authorities would not spare any person directly or indirectly found responsible for child marriages, he said.

Mass contact programme

The district administration has planned to conduct a mass contact programme at Ayyapatti on July 25. In this connection, the Collector received about 600 petitions from the villagers and handed them over to officials to take action and be prepared with solution on that day.

When a headmistress of a government school told him about lack of toilet facility in her school, Mr. Mishra directed the Block Development Officer to ascertain the requirement and take action for constructing the facility in the interest of teachers and girl students.
