A Division Bench of Justices K.K. Sasidharan and P.D. Audikesavalu of the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Tuesday directed the CBI to file a response to a contempt petition filed against the investigation agency.

The contempt petition was filed by K.S. Arjunan of Thoothukudi after the agency failed to identify and take action against the policemen involved in Thoothukudi firing during anti-Sterlite protests. The High Court Bench had earlier transferred the investigation into the firing incident to the CBI from the CB-CID. The firing that occurred on the 100th day of the anti-Sterlite protests left 13 people dead.
