Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) Chief General Manager (Tamil Nadu Circle) Mohammed Ashraf Khan has urged pensioners to make use of the vacant staff quarters of BSNL
Addressing the 3rd State conference of All India BSNL Pensioners’ Welfare Association here on Tuesday, Mr. Khan said that the quarters would give them a safe and peaceful environment to live in.
Out of around 1,000 vacant quarters, over 300 have been let for the pensioners, he said. The quarters would be useful even for children of the pensioners.

Mr. Khan also added that the pensioners, like the employees of BSNL, were eligible for a 60 per cent discount on broadband charges.
Besides, he invited the association to send all their grievances so as to enable him to make suitable recommendations to the BSNL headquarters.
He advised the pensioners to learn to live a healthy and happy life.

General Manager (Madurai BSNL) S.E. Rajam said that the organisation recognised the services of the retired persons who had toiled for the BSNL to lay a strong foundation. “It was the training you had given your colleagues that has helped them to take up additional load of work,” she said.
Stating that though landline phone service was pulling the BSNL down, the organisation has been making profit through its mobile services. She wanted the pensioners to patronise the BSNL mobile services also.
K. Muthiyalu, national president of the association, said that giving pension to BSNL retirees was never a burden to the government. The BSNL had been making more contribution than the total amount given as pension to BSNL pensioners. He, however, objected to forcing BSNL to pay pension to the officials and employees who retired from Department of Telecom. It should be paid only by the government, he said.
He also sought the BSNL to restore the medical reimbursement scheme without voucher for the pensioners.
