Come May 1, subscribers of Bharath Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) landline telephones can enjoy unlimited free calls between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m.
New scheme
Making the most of scrapping of inter-user charges among the telephone operators, the State-owned telecom operator has introduced the new scheme through which it intends to attract subscribers for its idling landline phone lines.

In Madurai telecom district, comprising Madurai, Dindigul and Theni districts, a total of 1 lakh out of 2.15 lakh landline phones lines were idling. The BSNL lost significant size of its landline subscriber base to the mobile phone technology offered by BSNL and other players.
“Bring back subscribers to fold”
“We want to bring those subscribers back to our fold with his new scheme,” Madurai General Manager S.E. Rajam said.

All BSNL landline subscribers, with out-going call making facility, can benefit from the scheme.
“People can call for free any landline or mobile number (immaterial of the operator) across the nation between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m.,” Ms. Rajam said.
Ms. Rajam expected more domestic connection subscribers to benefit from the scheme.

3 G facility
Besides Madurai city, Theni, Dindigul and Kodaikanal, the 3G mobile services were available in Nagamalai Pudukottai in Madurai district.
Works to provide the facility in Andipatti, Bodinaickanoor, Oddanchatram, Palani and Cumbum were under way, she said.
