Stating that the current Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led government at the Centre was following the footsteps of the previous United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government, former Kerala Minister Neelalohithadasan Nadar said that the Narendra Modi government must have an overhaul of their governance to keep pace with the hopes of the people.

He was addressing a State-level meet of the Tamil Nadu Janata Dal(S) in the city on Saturday.

Tracing the history of the various Prime Ministers who had served the country, Mr. Neelalohithasadan said that Deve Gowda, the president of the Janata Dal(S), had ensured that the country’s administration was free of corruption and had maintained a secular outlook.

“The BJP has been invoking religious sentiments to cement the corruption which is rampant. The government should not repeat the mistakes made by the UPA in the past with regard to borrowing from financial institutions which has resulted in the downfall of the economy,” he stated.

A set of nine resolutions were passed. Reading out the resolutions, State General Secretary John Moses said that encouraging foreign investments could hamper the freedom and sovereignty in the country.

“Further more, we have also asked the government to keep a check on caste clashes and ensure that incidents like the recent honour killing of a girl in Usilampatti are brought down,” he said.
