The dawn-to-dusk bandh call given by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, seeking support for the Sri Lankan issue evoked poor response as normal life in the district remained unaffected on Tuesday.
Though the DMK cadre claimed that shops had downed their shutters in some areas, buses, autorickshaws and other vehicles plied as usual.
Police had made elaborate arrangements since Monday night and according to a senior officer, 12 DMK cadre, who were picked up on preventive custody, were remanded in judicial custody.

Meanwhile, 192 party men and 17 law students, who were arrested in the forenoon, were released in the evening.
Additional police force was deployed at sensitive pockets, including 35 raod junctions, six bus depots and the four major bus stands.
Apart from this, police personnel were deployed at Law College, courts and at the office of the Congress party as a precautionary measure, he added.
