Differently abled persons in Madurai went on a wheelchair rally from Gandhi Museum to the district collectorate, on Sunday, to mark the celebration of World Differently Abled Day.

The ‘Joyful Wheelchair Awareness Rally on United Nations Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities’ organised by Akshaya Rehabilitation Trust and Sorgam Foundation saw more than 25 differently abled persons with their families taking part in the campaign to create awareness on the benefits that the differently abled could avail from the government and the laws that are meant to protect them.

“Wheel chair bound differently abled people are generally treated with indifference in the society. By taking out the rally, we intend to show the public that we too are normal people with normal families”, said S. Raja, founder of Sorgam Foundation. R. Thirunavukkarasu
