In a new development in the ongoing row over the demolition of a portion of Rani Mangammal Palace situated at North Avani Moola Street here, AIADMK general secretary and Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has suspended ‘Market’ Chelladurai, whose name figured in the First Information Report (FIR) registered by the police, from the party.
According to AIADMK party functionaries, the high command has instructed them not to have any contact with Chelladurai.
Two days ago, the PWD (Water Resources Organisation) officials, who are the occupants of the heritage building, had lodged a complaint with the city police stating that a portion of the roof had been demolished by their neighbour Chelladurai.

The Corporation officials who inspected the spot on Friday said the records suggested that Chelladurai’s men had allegedly encroached upon the heritage building while demolishing the old building on their land.
The damage to the roof and wall was estimated at Rs.1.50 lakh.
Initial probe revealed that the construction workers had demolished the heritage building.

Based on the complaint from the PWD officials, the Vilakuthoon police had registered a case against Chelladurai and others for trespassing and damaging the heritage structure.
On Friday, six persons, including Chelladurai’s son J.C.Senthil Kumar (29), were arrested.
The police are on the lookout for Chelladurai.
The Corporation officials said on Saturday that a small portion measuring 2x59 feet of the school land (behind the heritage building) was encroached on and the structure there damaged by the construction workers engaged by Chelladurai.
