Madurai City police have released the video grab of a male suspect involved in duping an elderly woman of her 11-sovereign gold chain in the guise of a policeman on Bypass Road on Friday.
The photograph taken from the video footage of a closed circuit television camera network shows a young man in trousers and shirt hurriedly walking.
The police said that the man had identified himself as a policeman and cautioned the woman about anti-social elements on the prowl in the area.

He advised the victim, S. Meenakshi (57), to keep her gold chain secured. After taking it from her, he wrapped it in a piece of paper and handed it over to the woman. On reaching home, the woman found the gold missing and realised that she was duped.
The Subramaniapuram police investigating the case found that the suspect was captured by a CCTV camera.

The police have advised people not to fall prey to anyone claiming to be police in civilian clothes and be wary about such tricksters.
