Vaccination programme under way

The Department of Health has begun immunisation for A (HINI) virus (Swine flu) for free and at concessional rates at the Kanyakumari Government Medical College Hospital here on Friday.

According to hospital Superintendent Sree Ram Kumar, with the 2,500 doses of vaccine available, 12,500 people could be vaccinated. Those who enrolled their names under Chief Minister's Life Insurance Scheme would be immunised for free. Others would have to pay a concessional rate fixed by the government for the special immunisation programme.

The disease had been reported in Kanyakumari, Madurai, Coimbatore, Salem, Villupuram, Vellore, Cuddalore and Kancheepuram districts in the State. Health Minister M.R.K. Paneerselvam inaugurated a vaccination camp in Chennai recently. Teams had been formed for the successful implementation of the programme at the Asaripallam hospital. People could avail the facility from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
