The ‘Twin Towns' of Tirunelveli and Palayamkottai entered the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited's third generation (3G) mobile service map on Thursday when Chief General Manager, Tamil Nadu Telecom Circle, D. Varadharajan formally inaugurated the communication service in a simple function held at the General Manager's Office here.
Speaking to reporters after inaugurating the facility, Mr. Varadharajan said that over 4 lakh subscribers across Tamil Nadu would be brought under 3G service as BSNL's Tamil Nadu Telecom Circle had established infrastructure facilities on an outlay of Rs. 130 crore in the State excluding Chennai, Kancheepuram and Thiruvallur districts.
In Tirunelveli, the service could be given to 15,000 subscribers within the corporation limits. After the BSNL decided to introduce 3G services in all district headquarters across the country, Coimbatore, Nagercoil, The Nilgiris, Erode, Tirupur and Namakkal along with tourism centres such as Kodaikanal and Kanyakumari had been brought under the map.

As an introductory promotional offer, BSNL 3G customers can avail video and voice calling facility for a period of six months at the rate of 30 paise per minute.
This 3G promotional offer is valid till April 22 for new 3G prepaid customers while 2G prepaid customers migrating to 3G prepaid plans can avail this offer by recharging with special voucher of Rs. 98 up to March 31.
