Thiagarajar College of Engineering entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with National Board of Accreditation (NBA) on Friday for recognising the college as one of the 16 nodal centres in the country for creating awareness among engineering colleges with respect to Outcome-Based Education and Accreditation (OBEA) offered by the NBA.

The MoU, inked by college chairman Karumuttu T. Kannan and Dinesh K. Paliwal, Member Secretary, NBA, in the presence of Principal V. Abhaikumar, would also focus on training the NBA evaluators and faculty members. The NBA accreditation amounts to formal recognition of an educational institution as a whole or a particular programme alone by an external agency through impartial assessment.

The OBEA was being offered with the basic objection of improving quality of technical education. According to a press communiqué issued by the college, the TCE, in its capacity as NBA’s nodal centre, would further identify NBA training centres to cover the entire region of south Tamil Nadu and parts of Kerala. The nodal centre would be coordinated by college Registrar M. Palani Natha Raja.
