Rallies mark Day Against Drug Abuse

To mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse, an awareness rally was taken out in nine places across Kanniyakumari district on Sunday.

Various social organisations functioning under the Kottar Diocese organised a rally in front of the Gandhi Mandapam.

The inaugural function of the rally was presided over by the Parish Priest of Thuya Alankara Ubakara Madha Church in Kanniyakumari.

Kanniyakumari Inspector of Police Saravana Kumar flagged off the rally. A torch was taken on a truck and followed by volunteers.

The torch went through Kottaram, Suchindram, Kottar, Meenakshipuram and reached St. Alocious School in Vettornimadam.

A similar, run was simultaneously held from Chungankadai, Kadiyapattinam, Aralvoimozhi, Colachel, Ettimaday, Enayam, Alanji and Karmal Nagar. The Jothi Otttam from these places culminated at Christhu Arasar Church in Vetoornimadam.

Later a function was presided over by Kottar Diocese Bishop Peter Remigius. Justice Selvam of Madras High Court released a book titled ``Bothaiyai Namadhu Kudumbam’’ in Tamil at the function.

Christhu Church Parish Priest Neon Nelson, Public Prosecutor A. Gnanasekar and Chief Education Officer V. Jayakumar participated.
