Noon meal scheme resumes at Uppuparai

Revenue officials have resumed supply of noon meal to students, mostly tribal children, studying in Veeramamunivar Primary School at Uppuparai village near Perumalmalai in Kodaikanal on Monday.

The officials reversed the transfer order issued to the cook and other noon meal staff asking them to get back to work. Noon meal was served to all the students at the school on Monday afternoon. Kodaikanal Revenue Divisional Officer S. Suresh issued orders in this connection.

The Hindu had carried a detailed report on sudden withdrawal of noon meal scheme from the school.

Established in 1980, the school has been imparting primary education to tribal children at Uppupari village and nearby areas with around 150 families. At present, the school has 26 students.

The Department of Education granted recognition to this school in 1980 with a condition that it should neither collect fee from students nor ask State government grant for teachers.

At the same time, MGR Midday Meal Scheme was started in the school, which mostly served tribal children, in 1995.
