: It was a special day for about 100 residents of Narikuravar Colony at Sakkimangalam near here on Sunday.
Not only their grievances were redressed in a record time by the district administration, but they received the newly printed family ration cards directly from the District Collector C. Kamaraj at a function.
Apart from handing over about 85 ration cards, old age pension and other welfare assistance from the government were given away.

The Collector received petitions from public who had requested issuance of ration cards, provide drinking water, lay roads and provide streetlights.
P. Kumaresan of E. Pudur said that he had been seeking ration cards for the last 10 years.
Some other residents wanted house site pattas. There are close to 800 families residing in the colony, officials said.

Later talking to reporters, Mr. Kamaraj said that after carrying out preliminary tests, a borewell would be sunk in the locality within a day or two.
He assured that all eligible persons would get ration cards and other benefits as per the government norms. During his recent visit to Alagarkoil, a large number of people belonging to Narikuravar community sought issuance of ration cards. Steps had been taken to provide the same soon, he replied. The district administration would focus on providing basic amenities to all concerned, he added.
Revenue Divisional Officer Sugumaran, District Supply Officer S. Murugiah, Tahsildars Udayakumar and A. Arjunan, PRO S. Saravanan among other officials participated.
