HC grants bail to “Attack” Pandi in arms smuggling case

Madurai Bench of Madras High Court has granted anticipatory bail to V P Pandi alias “Attack” Pandi in a case relating to recovery of arms and ammunition sent through private parcel recently.

Justice M. M. Sunderesh on Friday said the petitioner shall be released on bail as and when he appears before Aruppukottai Judicial Magistrate. He should stay in Madurai and sign before the magistrate daily for four weeks.

Two persons were arrested in Aruppukottai town on February 24 after they were found in possession of a gunny bag which contained two pistols, four magazines and 27 bullets packed in a box.

During interrogation, the duo revealed that the arms and ammunition had been sent from Chennai through a private road transport agency.

Later, police arrested three more persons in Aruppukottai in connection with the case and also apprehended the person who had booked the parcel in Chennai. As the parcel was meant to be delivered to “Attack” Pandi, he was also included as an accused in the case.

Pandi was among the accused in the case relating to the attack on the office of the Tamil daily “Dinakaran” here in 2007 in which three persons were killed.
