Film directors meet Rajiv case convicts

Tamil film directors arriving to meet the Rajiv Gandhi assasination case life convicts at the Vellore central prison on Tuesday.

Tamil film directors Vikraman, R.K.Selvamani, Ameer, Kalanjiyam, Vetrimaran, Perarasu and Ramesh Kanna on Tuesday met life convicts in Rajiv Gandhi assassination case in the Vellore central prison.

They demanded the State government to release them under Article 161 of the Constitution.

Speaking to the media outside the prison, Vikraman, R.K.Selvamani and Amir said they met Santhan, Murugan and Perarivalan and handed them dhoti, shirt and fruits.

They said that seven convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case have spent more than 20 years in prison and the Tamil Nadu government could release them under Article 161 of the Constitution.

They expressed the hope that the State government would pay heed to the demand that comes from whole of Tamil community. “We have asked for an appointment with Chief Minister Jayalalithaa to put forward our demand. We hope these seven people would be released in view of the birth anniversary of former Chief Minister M.G.Ramachandran,” they said.
