Eight members of family get life for murder

A Second Fast Track court on Thursday awarded life imprisonment to eight members of a family and slapped a fine of Rs. 44,000 after they were convicted for murdering a 25-year-old youth here on September 14, 2006.

According to the prosecution, a property dispute occurred between Rasuthevar and Mayandi over 7.5 cents of land at Pudupatti and the civil dispute ended in favour of Rasuthevar.

Later a wordy duel broke out between Rasuthevar’s son R. Paneerselvam and members of Mayandithevar’s family including Mayandi, his wife Ammasi, sons Santhanam, Raja, Moorthy, Kannan, Chitra (W/oSanthanam) and Muthumari (W/oRaja). They attacked Paneerselvam and hacked him to death.

Police arrested all the eight persons and Judge R. Radha on Thursday sentenced all of them to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs. 20,000 on Mayandi and directed that the amount be given to Rasuthevar.

The remaining amount (Rs. 24,000) should be given as compensation to Rajendran and Jayarani, relatives of Paneerselvam, who got injured in the attack.
