A 40-acre land purchased in 1995 for raising agricultural produce was now being used to produce engineering graduates as “I started this college by accident in 2001,” said M.K.S. Sreenivasan, chairman, Vickram College of Engineering, at Enathi in Sivaganga district.
Delivering the presidential address at the 12th Sports and College Day celebrations on Tuesday, he said that the country was producing around 15 lakh engineering graduates every year.
Of them, around 5 lakh obtained graduation from the southern States.

Yet, it was not sufficient given the global demand for engineers, he said.
Governor Konijeti Rosaiah commended the initiatives taken by the college for imparting technical education and said: “The quality of education imparted should result in acceleration of growth and development, generate a flair for creativity and create more young scientists, researchers and innovators.”
Earlier, he distributed certificates and medals to meritorious students and unveiled a plaque to mark the inauguration of V.O.C. centenary building on the campus. Former Member of Parliament C. Narasimhan and Principal S. Kathirrvelu were among those who spoke.
