The Director of Collegiate Education (DCE) has been appointed a member of Madurai Kamaraj University’s three-member Conveners’ Committee at its special Syndicate meeting held in Chennai on Thursday.

The appointment, which was the main agenda for the special meeting, has been made to fill the vacancy created by M. Ramakrishnan, whose tenure came to an end last Monday.

K. Sekar, the present Joint Director (Finance) of Directorate of Collegiate Education who is acting as DCE in full additional charge, will take charge as a CC member with immediate effect, sources said. The DCE is one of the eight ex-officio members of MKU’s Syndicate.

It was the first meeting chaired by A. Karthik, who became the Convenor of the CC after he took charge as the Higher Education Secretary. Apart from Mr. Karthik and Mr. Sekar, the reconstituted CC has V. Venkatraman, whose tenure, however, comes to an end by next month. “Though Mr. Venkatraman’s tenure is getting over by August 11, his replacement was not discussed. That will be decided only next month,” said a senior official privy to the meeting.

Sources said conducting election for choosing a Senate nominee to the Vice-Chancellor Search Committee was also informally discussed. “The university has initiated the steps from its end. The Secretary said that further steps will be taken soon in consultation with the government,” another official said. The selection process of a new VC for MKU has been stuck after Mu. Ramasamy resigned as Senate nominee of the Search Committee in February, alleging irregularities in the functioning of the committee.
