Collector hands over relief

Rs.1 lakh was given as relief to the family of Pavithra of Kottai Medu who died of water borne diseases here on Thursday.

Collector P. Muthuveeran handed over the cheque to her mother at her residence.

She died on Wednesday after spreading of water borne diseases at Bodi, Cumbum, Uthamapalayam and Chinnamanur.

Hundreds of people were admitted to several government hospitals in the district for treatment. Several persons were treated as out patients.

The affected villages and towns were Uthamapalayam, Anumanthanpatti, Appipatti, Erasakkanaickanur, Chinna Ovalapuram, U. Ammapatti, Parama Thevanpatti, Muthulapuram, Kombai, Ramasamy Naickenpatti, Ezhuvampatti and Then Palani.

At present, 20 cases were being treated at Theni Government Medical College Hospital, 56 in Government Hospital in Chinnamanur and 59 in in Uthamapalayam GH.

A total of 23 medical teams had been constituted to visit affected villages and nearby areas and take preventive measures to control water borne diseases.

Cleaning of over head and ground level tanks and other drinking water sources had already been commenced at village and town panchayats and in municipalities.

Use fresh water

People were advised to drain all stored water and use fresh and chlorinated water.
