Though the government was keen to extend all possible help to people from the economically weaker minority communities through various welfare schemes, the target group was not aware of such programmes, Minister for Environment, Youth Welfare and Sports T.P.M. Maideen Khan said.

Addressing a function organised here on Saturday evening to distribute welfare measures and economic assistances to the tune of Rs. 1.10 crore to 449 beneficiaries affiliated to 27 backward class and minority community self-help groups, Mr. Khan said that the State Government established ‘Muslim Women Welfare Society' in which the government would invest the amount equal to the investment being made by the members. However, the Muslim women were not aware of this scheme.

“As the members of this society have invested Rs.7.20 lakh last year, the government has also put in an equal amount. Hence, the women should be aware of such welfare schemes and avail them,” Mr. Khan added.
