Among the 34 students who secured the top three marks in the district in SSLC examination, the results of which were announced on Wednesday, only one student did her schooling in Tamil medium.

The girl, S. Kavipriya from O.C.P.M Girls Higher Secondary School in Tallakulam, is the daughter of S. Solamuthu, a conductor with Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC), and S. Mariammal, a homemaker.

When asked why she did not opt for English medium like most other students, Kavipriya said that it was by her choice and not because of her parents.

“My parents were willing to put me in English medium. However, I opted for Tamil medium since I felt that I can under the subjects better if I learn them in my mother tongue,” says Kavipriya, who scored 496 marks with centum in Mathematics, Science and Social Sciences.

“My English teacher wanted me to specially focus on the subject. I am glad that I managed to score 98 marks in English,” she also said.
