In a major relief to 82 police personnel suffering from chronic ailments, the city police have taken efforts to unburden them from their huge monthly medical bills.

These police personnel suffering from various health issues from acute diabetes, hypertension, kidney transplantation and heart-related diseases were paying through their nose a hefty medical bill every month. The Commissioner of Police, Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal, came to know about this after all the police personnel of the city police were screened for their health by specialist doctors from the Government Rajaji Hospital in the last two months.

Realising their burden, he coordinated with the State government and procured those medicines from the Government through the police hospital of Madurai city. The Commissioner on Tuesday distributed the medicines to the needy police personnel free of cost. A police officer said that these police personnel would continue to get these medicines every month.
