Following a sudden spurt in the influx of patients suffering from dengue and swine flu in the district, Collector Shilpa Prabhakar Satish deployed 57 mobile medical teams to extend medical assistance and create awareness among the public of these deadly viral infections.

Each mobile medical team will have a doctor, a nurse and a medical assistant and a television set to screen awareness messages on the viral diseases. Each of 19 blocks in the district will have three mobile medical teams.

Ms. Shilpa, after flagging off these medical teams, said 15 swine flu patients and five dengue patients had been successfully treated at Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital after sporadic cases of these viral diseases were reported.

Though dengue and swine flu have been controlled effectively by deploying 2,748 personnel, the district administration had strengthened it further by deploying mobile medical teams.

“Those who are suffering from fever should come to the government hospitals or Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital for the right line of treatment. We’ve adequate stocks of the medicines for dengue and swine flu and there is no need to panic,” said Ms. Shilpa.
