₹ 350 crore allocated for Madurai under JICA

MGR’s birth centenary celebrations continue in city

A total of ₹ 350 crore had been allocated to Madurai for undertaking development of hospitals and related infrastructure under the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)-aided project, said Health Minister C. Vijayabaskar, while inaugurating a blood donation camp at the government hospital in Tirumangalam as part of former Chief Minister M.G. Ramachandran’s birth centenary celebrations here on Monday.

He said that the allocated amount would be used for construction of hospital buildings in the district with around ₹150 Crore while an equivalent amount would be invested in the procurement of high-end equipment and setting up of labs. Similarly, he assured that the demand for setting up an orthopaedic speciality wing in Tirumangalam government hospital would be met soon.

Earlier in the day, a photo exhibition depicting the life of former Chief Minister and AIADMK founder M.G. Ramachandran was inaugurated by Revenue Minister R. B. Udhayakumar and Cooperation Minister ‘Sellur’ K. Raju at the Jhansi Rani Park on Monday.
