The second round of Pulse Polio programme took place on Sunday with 2.96 lakh children being administered the vaccine in the district. Children up to five years of age were administered polio drops at 1,600 immunisation booths and mobile units set up for the purpose in public places.
S. Senthilkumar, Deputy Director of Health Services, Madurai district, said the total coverage of children had exceeded 100 per cent of the target, including children who were given drops while in transit. “We gave special focus at tollgates on Ring Road where the vaccine was administered to 2,500 children,” he said.
From Monday, health officials will carry out door-to-door survey to ascertain whether all children below five years of age had been administered the vaccine.
