Appointment orders for employment in the private sector were handed over to 2,473 aspirants at a mega job mela organised by the Department of Employment and Training and the district administration at The American College here on Friday.
As many as 136 private organisations participated in the mela to select employees with educational qualification upwards of eighth standard.
Inaugurating the mela, Minister for Rural Industries, Labour and Employment P. Mohan said the number of registered job aspirants in the employment offices stood at 84.68 lakh in the State as on December 31.

Such special job melas were being organised in every district to facilitate employment of youth in the private sector in tune with the industrial growth in Tamil Nadu. Appointment orders were given to 5,054 persons at the first such mela held in Srirangam on September 8, 2013, the Minister said. In the last three years, 52,794 persons had been employed in the private sector through mega job melas.
Collector L. Subramanian presided. Those who participated in the inaugural function included Mayor V.V. Rajan Chellappa, Labour Commissioner P. Amudha, and Director of Employment and Training C. Samayamurthy, according to an official press release.
