106 roads to be laid, repaired

Corporation officials said that paver blocks would be laid for the whole stretch of 29 streets.

The City Corporation plans to repair and lay 106 roads in the city using Special Road Programme (SRP) Fund 2015-16.

The 106 roads have been classified under six categories including metalled roads, new metalled roads, paver block roads and new paver block roads.

Corporation officials said that paver blocks would be laid for the whole stretch of 29 streets.

Repair would be carried out on 77 metalled roads which had been either damaged in the recent rain or dug up for various works undertaken by the corporation.

Major work

One of the major works is the repair of the busy but battered Panagal Road from Anna bus stand to Thevar statue near Government Rajaji Hospital. Works will be carried out for a length of 440 metres on an outlay of Rs. 47 lakh, the highest under the proposals to repair metalled roads.

Annai Teresa Road and streets in its vicinity will get new paver block roads at a cost of Rs. 64 lakh.

Mayor V.V. Rajan Chellappa has announced that Rs. 26.03 crore has been allotted to carry out works for the 106 roads covering a total stretch of 56.87 km.
