Work on Bund Road to be completed in a month

April 26, 2014 10:47 am | Updated May 21, 2016 01:31 pm IST - KOCHI:

Work on a 600-metre portion between Sastri Nagar and K.P. Vallon Road of the Thykoodam-Thevara ‘Chilavanoor Bund Road’ will be completed in a month. The full road is slated to be opened to traffic by the year end, N. Venugopal, Chairman of the Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) told mediapersons on Friday.

He said that a two-lane bridge would replace a culvert that links Ernakulam Junction railway station’s eastern entry with Gandhinagar. “Work began a week ago and the bridge will be ready in six months.”

On Kochi Corporation demanding that the GCDA stop works at Rajendra Maidan where a laser show has been envisaged, he said that the corporation issued a notice after a 1.5-foot structure was built at the ground.

“The corporation must review its approach to government agencies. It has sought ownership certificate from us for permitting us to rebuild a part of Ambedkar stadium near the KSRTC bus stand. All this appears to be an ego problem.”

“Another agency KSINC (formerly KINCO) is unable to reconstruct its boat jetty at Marine Drive since the corporation has opposed it citing CRZ norms. A boat jetty cannot be built on MG Road,” Mr. Venugopal said.
