‘Inside Fort’ in Tripunithura was once a set of palaces around the Sree Poornathrayeesa Temple, the citadel of the erstwhile royalty. Today, as high-rises dot the skyline of the one-time city of palaces, few have count of beautiful heritage structures lost in the transition. There has been no proper audit either of heritage structures left in the city. Of the 42 palaces that were once situated between the Kizhake Kota Vathil and the Vadakke Kota Vathil, 13 have been completely lost. While many heritage structures were modified to suit present-day living, some were razed down to give way to new buildings. The Department of Archaeology in 2005 listed 21 structures that have not changed over time. A look at what has been lost, and what remains in Tripunithura.
