Water supply restored

May 08, 2013 01:54 am | Updated June 08, 2016 03:46 am IST - KOCHI:

The water distribution in the city and the suburbs will be back to normal only by Wednesday morning.

The supply was restored when pumping from the head works at the Aluva treatment plant began by about 10.30 a.m. on Tuesday.

The pumping to the mainline was stopped for a day to facilitate the interconnection between the mainline to the West Kochi supply line at the Kathrikadavu-Karanakodam junction underneath the railway line.

The 1,200 mm pipes that were laid are expected to improve water supply to West Kochi areas.

As the pumping was stopped for 24 hours on Monday, it would take time for the consumers at the tail end of the distribution line to get full-fledged supply, said the Superintending Enginneer T. G. Rajasekharan.

Another interconnection work at Sahodaran Ayyappan Road for Chilavannoor area remains undone though the sanction for the work had been provided earlier, said officials in KWA.

The work is likely to be taken up in a few months.
