The Kerala Water Authority has restored water supply into the main supply lines under the Kaloor subdivision that was disrupted when earthmovers at the Kochi Metro’s piling work site accidentally broke a large pipe on Sunday.

Residents in the High Court area, Pachalam, Vaduthala, Kacheripady, Kaloor and SRM Road affected by the disruption started getting water by Monday night.

A senior official of KWA monitoring the restoration work told

Earlier, the whole worksite was flooded with water and no work could be taken up on Sunday. After closing the valves, KWA had to pump out the remaining water in the large pipes to begin work.

The KWA official said the Kochi Metro, though cautious about the pipeline network, could have been a little more careful. The official avoided commenting on the non-availability of a sketch on the pipeline network, but added that these pipes were laid long ago and that the roads were much narrower at the time.
