Supply of water to around 500 families in Moolampilly has been arranged temporarily by filling water in tankers from the Pizhala pump house and unloading it into part of the pipeline to Moolampilly that has not been washed away in the floods.
A part of the 200-metre 150mm HDPE pipeline that was underwater was washed away in the flood waters.
The Kerala Water Authority (KWA) had requested the Navy’s help to retrieve the pipeline.

A new underwater pipeline to Moolampilly would be laid as was done for the Korankkodu island in Cheranelloor panchayat off the Vaduthala jetty. The 120-metre 110 mm pipeline in Korankkodu was also washed away in the flood.
Work on laying a new pipeline to the area was started on Friday and is expected to be completed by Monday. The island has about 85 families but there is no transport connection to this island, except a ferry. Meanwhile, water supply to most other parts of the city is improving after the distribution was resumed on August 22.
According to KWA officials, there could be air pockets in the pipeline hindering the free flow of water. It would take more than a week for normal supply to reach the people living in the far end of the distribution line.

With many people returning to their houses from relief camps, the problem of septic tanks getting filled is over. The KWA was called in to clear the sewage tanks at large relief camps in the city such as the ones in the Maharaja’s College and St. Albert’s College.
