A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court on Monday directed the State government and the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation to respond to a new petition contending that dumping of waste at the Vilappilsala solid waste treatment plant was violative of the Municipal Solid Wastes (Management and Handling) Rules.
The Bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Manjula Chellur and Justice A.M. Shaffique adjourned the hearing on the petition to September 18.
The petition, filed by two persons, Ganadas and Sadanandan, staying close to the plant, pleaded that protection by the police or the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) could not be granted to the Corporation for dumping solid waste at the plant, since rules banned dumping of waste near thickly populated areas.

The petitioners sought to implead themselves in a petition filed by the Corporation seeking a directive to deploy the CRPF for implementing the court order to provide police protection for waste treatment at the plant. The court had last time directed the police to strictly implement its directive to provide protection for transporting machineries to the plant for the construction of leachate plant.
