Victims of quarry collapse cremated

Vengola panchayat near Perumbavoor bid adieu to the victims of the granite quarry collapse on Tuesday. The bodies of the were recovered on Wednesday after more than 36 hours of search operations.

The victims were cremated on Thursday after thousands of people from different walks of life paid their last respects at the SNDP Hall, Valayanchirangara, where the bodies were kept for an hour. They were brought to the hall in a procession from the Perumbavoor Taluk Hospital.

The bodies of Eroth Santosh and Cheruvarakkudy Vijayan were taken to their homes in Valayanchirangara for the cremation. The bodies of the victim from Orissa, Rama Kant (Roma) and Kallarakkal Mohanan were cremated at the public crematorium at Malamury.

Saju Paul and V. P. Sajeendran, MLAs, were among those who were present during the cremation.
