Two youths killed as truck rams bike

Two youngsters died when the motorcycle they were riding was rammed by a truck at Karayamparambu near Angamaly late on Thursday night.

The deceased were identified as Gopakumar, 19, of Mattoor, and Jackson Jenny, 16, of Mukkannoor. The duo were employed with a catering unit and were reportedly on their way back home at the time of the accident.

According to the police, the youths had overtaken the truck through the left side and were trying to manoeuvre the motorcycle to the right at a junction when the truck rammed it throwing them under the wheels. Though they were rushed to hospital, their lives could not be saved.

The Angamaly police seized the truck and arrested the truck driver who was charged with a case invoking IPC Sections 79 (rash driving) and 304-A (Causing death by negligence).
