Thousands take part in mass ‘Onasadya’

Thousands of people, drawn from different communities, participated in the rituals, festivities and cultural programmes throughout the day despite incessant rain

The nine-day Onam festival at Thrikkakara temple, seat of the Onam legend, ended on Wednesday with more than 10,000 people participating in the traditional Onasadya.

The Thiruvonam day rituals and festivities started at the temple in the early hours and continued till late into the afternoon until the festival flag was lowered after 5 p.m. Thousands of people, drawn from different communities, participated in the rituals, festivities and cultural programmes throughout the day despite incessant rain.

The highlight of the cultural programmes was the staging of the trio of traditional dances — Ottamthullal, Seethankanthullal and Parayanthullal by Sreevatsakalakendram Kaduthuruthy.

Vadakkan Paravoor Mathrusangham and Thiruvathira Kalkendram, Kaloor staged Thiruvathira, which were followed by a karaoke music concert. Pakalppooram and fireworks marked the culmination of the celebrations.
