Teenager dies in road mishap

A 16-year-old boy riding pillion was crushed to death when a bus that came from the wrong side knocked down the two-wheeler near the Paravur bridge in North Paravur on Wednesday afternoon.

The deceased has been identified as Harikrishnan, son of Santosh, a native of Neendoor near Vadakkekara. The accident took place after the two-wheeler was hit by the bus. Amalraj, who was riding the bike, escaped with some minor injuries. The bus crew fled the spot after the collision.

“The bus came from the wrong direction by ignoring the one-way traffic stipulations, thereby causing the accident. Harikrishnan was thrown off the bike due to the impact and suffered fatal injuries on his head’’, said TV Shibu, Sub Inspector of police, North Paravur.

The bus involved in the accident was identified as Valiyaparambil travels, which plied in the Paravur-Kodungallur route.

Cases have been booked against the bus driver under provisions of rash driving and culpable homicide not amounting to murder. 

Meanwhile, irate locals attacked the bus and staged a protest in the area against “alleged official indifference towards over-speeding of private buses, posing threat to the public”.
