Police await laboratory report

The Central police continue to keep two migrants under surveillance even as they await the result of the scientific analysis of a suspicious looking substance found in the possession of the duo on Tuesday night.

The sample of the nearly 1 kg substance had been sent to the Regional Analytical Laboratory at Kakkanad for examination.

Police sources said while it appeared to be a chemical used in fire crackers, which could hardly be used for triggering any explosive device, a confirmation of its exact components would be known only on receiving the lab report.

For the time being, the police have registered a case invoking CrPC Section 102 (seizure of any property which may be found under circumstances which create suspicion of the commission of any offence).

The duo denied that the substance belonged to them though it was found from their residence-cum-workplace at Pulleppady.

The dwelling had about 40 migrant inmates.

The incident came to light after one of their roommates overheard a conversation between the two about the substance and informed a local acquaintance who in turn alerted the police. The police soon reached the spot and even pressed the dog and bomb disposal squad into service.
