The third edition of the street theatre festival, Theruvarangu-2017, organised by the P.J. Antony Memorial Foundation, will be held across four venues in the district from March 1 to 4.
All 12 plays selected for the festival will be presented at each of the venues – the Ernakulam Public Library premises; on the Panangad Ganapathy temple premises in collaboration with ‘Sruthy’, Panangad; at the Jawahar Arts Club and Library at Thathapilly in North Paravur; and on the premises of the Thrikkariyur Mahadeva Temple in collaboration with ‘Bodhi’ Kothamangalam and P. Krishna Pillai Memorial Library.
The first two editions of the festival broke new ground in reinvigorating the people’s theatre, also known as proximity theatre, which discusses relevant contemporary social and political issues. “But the forthcoming edition will be the largest in terms of scale, number of venues and participation,” said the organisers.

Parallel performances will take place at all four venues.
Theatre activist Probir Guha, CPI(M) district secretary P. Rajeev, Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi vice chairman Xavier Pulppad and actor Sajitha Madathil will inaugurate the festival at each of the venues. A host of seminars and lectures will be held along with the festival. Noted theatre director A.A. Chandrahasan is the festival director.
Ghar Wapsi Ka Geeth by Alternative Living Theatre, Kolkata; Velichenna by Malayala Kalanilayam Nataka Vedi, Koothuparambu; and Ithu Josephinte Katha, Annayudeyum by C-4 Kart, Enakkam (Women’s Wing), Kochi will be staged at Ernakulam Public Library on the inaugural day.
